Happy New Year!
Yes, I know that some people have been working for a week already (and if you had no time off, I’m so sorry), but I was glad to have some time for rest and reflection. 2015 was a very interesting year for me. Starting out as a business owner for the first time (does Junior Achievement count?), I made some mistakes and had a few successes – overall it was a great learning experience. You certainly learn a lot about yourself and your level of discipline when you become master of your own time (insert Doctor Who reference as needed).
With my background in process improvement, I’ve been working on projects to help businesses make more data-driven decisions across various functions. This year, I’m more focused on improving Sales and Marketing operations because I have a strong interest in that area and I believe that entrepreneurs will always invest in revenue-generating activities, or as a friend put it, “selling will sell”. Especially in our current economic conditions, businesses need to market themselves more efficiently and effectively than ever before.
In addition to that, I hope to be sharing more lessons, favorite articles and case studies online. I have a wide variety of interests so prepare yourself; I tend to read mostly about marketing, retail, decision-making, applications of big data, and analytics. The occasional pop culture reference might slip in as well… If you’re interested in learning more about any of these topics, feel free to let me know in the comments section. Frankly, I find it easier to curate than create original content, but I’m not half bad at either. So this year, I’m challenging myself to not only share, but create content and connect with SMEs and business owners keen on improving the way they run their organisations.
Finally, as with many “resolution-makers” I have told myself to be more disciplined about blogging this year. Mind you, I said this last year. I also said something remarkably similar to a gym buddy (who at this point is more of a gym acquaintance). However, I will always try. Paraphrasing my mother, even hardship and obstacles are a luxury granted only to the living. As long as you’re alive, you have the opportunity to try again.
I’m still alive…and that’s always a good sign 🙂
